5 Questions to Ask a Wedding Planner at Your First Meeting

5 questions to ask a potential wedding planner at your first meeting to make sure you find the right fit for your wedding!

Finding the right wedding planner is one of the most important decisions you will make when it comes to planning your wedding! You will spend a lot of time, sometimes even more than a year, working together to plan your special day, so it's important that they are a good fit for you and your wedding.

These 5 questions to ask at your initial meeting will make sure you find the best wedding planner for your wedding day!

1. Are you available for our date?

Start off easy with the basics. If the planner isn't going to be available for your date, there is no need to waste your time or theirs. If they are available, it's time to get into the specifics! If not, ask them if they have another planner they would recommend.

2. How many weddings have you planned?

Having experience planning weddings is essential to hiring a planner, but how much experience is important to you? A newer planner may have more experience planning events other than weddings, but weddings require a different skill set. Keep in mind that the more experienced planners also tend to charge more, so find a combination you are happy with.

3. How many weddings do you work on at a time?

You can expect that your planner will be working with more than one wedding at a time, but you still need to feel like you and your wedding are a priority. Make sure that you feel comfortable with the number of other clients your planner would be working with. The number of couples a planner will work with at one time can depend on the size of their team, their experience, and the amount of time between the weddings.

4. Do you specialize in any type of wedding?

Are you looking to plan a budget-friendly wedding? A destination wedding? Or a luxurious ultra-formal wedding? Will your ceremony or reception include aspects of a certain religion or culture? Finding a planner that specializes in the type of wedding you are looking to plan, or has experience in that area, can be key to planning the wedding of your dreams.

5. What does the planning process look like? How involved will we be?

This question can answer how many meetings you will have with the planner, what tasks the planner will help with, how they communicate with and what role they will play in dealing with vendors, and how involved they will be. What the planner offers should match what you are looking for in the planning process, but most planners are willing to work with you to make sure that you are as involved in the planning process as you'd like!
